We have enjoyed having our office space and being able to spread out a bit. It has allowed us to be more comfortable and separate home and business life, but it comes at an expense. The expense is added to our operating costs and that, in turn, becomes part of our overhead.
We realize the recent downturn in the economy causing increased costs of fuel, food, lease, etc is not confined to our business. Everyone is feeling the crunch. Our options were to increase our costs or lower our overhead. Increasing our costs would deter us from our objective of providing affordable yet professional web sites to small businesses. So we are choosing to lower our overhead.
We started as a home business so we are not new to working from home. Our tools are our computers and Internet access and we have that at home as well as the office. We will be able to eliminate several duplicated expenses as a result of combining home and office in addition to no longer paying for the office space and costs associated with it.
The lower overhead, then, does not have any negative impact on our ability to provide services to our customers. About the only inconvenience some customers may see is we will be meeting with customers at their place of business or at some off-site location (i.e. Tim Horton's). Most customer meetings are at the customer's place of business anyway so we don't see this as affecting most of our customers.
Since our office was not that far from home the move will be able to take place without any significant interruption of day-to-day operations. There may be some delays for the next week as we cram as much stuff as we can into our home but that will be completed before September 1st.
By reducing our overhead we can keep our costs low during these difficult economic times. That will allow us to provide our services at very reasonable rates for those businesses that still need websites. We see this area as being an ever increasingly important part of any business as each dollar needs to make the biggest impact.
Your bottom line will benefit from this change in our operating location. We are already planning our needs into the next year and how to be able to expand while keeping our costs under control. In this way you will know that we will be around through the hard times and will be around long in to the future. We are still in the business of helping the small businesses like ours. Keep you eye on us as we continue to transform and adapt to the changing economic climate.
